A six bedroom micro-hotel in the eaves of an historic silk mill.
Strategy | Brand | Interior Design
Located in the heart of historic Knutsford, The Freemasons Inn is a grade II listed pub and former silk mill from 1754. In the eaves of the building are 6 luxurious rooms, The Silk Rooms.
Our brief was to create an identity and interior scheme that would bring a high level of quality and design to the serviced accommodation sector - positioning the space as a luxury rural bolthole, and a retreat for wedding couples and guests celebrating in one of the many nearby venues.
“RAW CLAY HAVE THE RARE ABILITY TO CREATE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FEELING IN A SPACE. THEY WENT ABOVE & BEYOND ON THIS PROJECT.”
Jade McNeil, The Silk Rooms
The Silk Rooms required an identity that would tell the story of the building’s deep heritage. A silk moth sits at the heart of the brand, along with hand-drawn illustrations inspired by the many uses the building has had over the years.
We developed two interior design schemes to be split across the 6 rooms, creating a cohesive brand feel whilst making each room feel unique. Rich colours & tactile fabrics cocoon guests, while natural wood textures, earthy clay, and trailing ivy tie the space to the rural surroundings.
Printed brand touch points like postcards, coasters, room information and a Silk Rooms newspaper Morning Pages integrated the identity within the space. We provided content direction, and templates for social media to ensure the brand was carried through to digital applications.
The accommodation was styled sustainably, with bespoke furniture designed by Raw Clay and made locally by a skilled joiner, in addition to refurbished vintage pieces and sustainably sourced finishes.
Our team created a collection of illustrations, prints, photographs and collages inspired by the silk moth and the Knutsford countryside.
